Library Resources

Speer Memorial Library houses over 100,000 books, paperbacks, microforms, and audiovisual material. The library has a budget of over $1,000,000, some 30+ paid staff, along with additional workstudy and other "volunteer" workers who help in the library proper as well as in library sponsored programs such as "GED" training, Income Tax assistance, and Computer Literacy.

Our most popular informational, educational, and recreational acquisition ...the Internet... has the highest usage of any Public Library from Corpus to Brownsville up through Laredo and is available at each of our 250 plus public accessible computer terminals. We also have a Dial-Up Internet Access System with over 2,500 individual library patrons signed up to dial-up to the Internet from their home or office via our library.

The Library has meeting rooms available on reservation to groups whose purposes are civic, cultural, or educational. These rooms are not available for the following purposes: business and corporate sales or promotional meetings, partisan groups, religious meetings, social affairs, or receptions of a personal nature.

To view more information about these rooms click here Provisions for Community Rooms and if you would like to request a reservation please download and fill out a Community Request Form and bring it to the Library.

Other resources available at Speer Memorial Library include:
